SECTIONS 3 - 4

Here I am just making quick cartoon sketches to determine how to best pose the trio of goddesses, and this is where some basic considerations are developed, for example...

* Should the figures stand seperately, should they touch or twine their arms about each other?

** Should the 3 women be nude, partially clothed, or fully clothed?

*** Should they lean toward each other? What objects will they hold to denote their status?

Well, at this point in the process, life interrupted me, and I had guests to take care of, dinner to cook, and subsequently, time to consider whether or not I wanted to keep the classical look or use a theme to make the piece more interesting. The salon where this will hang is filled with bright colors and fun furniture such as a hand-painted cabinet with dancing jesters, and various paintings by other artists who use a strong graphic style (rather than painterly). I decided when I sat down to draw the next day, to just doodle and see what came to mind--this sketch is the result. It follows a pattern of quick, fun figures, like those I would often draw in my Chinese student's English notebooks--not concentrating on correct proportions, or even physically possible positions, just trying to come up with a page full of fun and interesting figures that were thematically related. I have always loved the circus, and for some reason (yes, there are still going to be Mysteries concerning the creation process) I chose this theme to work on.
